naps and some pictures

Over the weekend David and I took a drive to La Jolla in the hopes that William would take a nap in the car so we could drive around (one of our favorite pastimes). He's slowly been giving them up, as hard as I try, and it makes me really sad. I read in HSHC that kids should take naps until at least 3 and he's not even halfway through 2. I would still like him to some days when he's being particularly ornery but generally he seems to be doing just fine. He sleeps really well during the night (from 7:30 - 7:30 or so) and doesn't seem to need a nap at all. I'm the one who's struggling! Nap time was precious time! Time to take a nap myself or do computer work uninterrupted or watch Downton Abbey or something else really selfish . . . but no more! My one consolation is that he will still have "quiet time" where he'll lay on the couch and watch a movie or just read books. It gives us both a little rest. We recently switched him out of the crib and into a "big boy" bed and since then he's been sleeping really great and taking 3 hours naps. I'm not counting that as "the norm" yet though since it's been less than a week. Fingers crossed that the trend continues!

Anyway, our plan for a little car nap didn't work out but we did get a few fun pictures at the temple.
I'm happy to report I finally have a pregnancy picture. I'm so bad at documenting my pregnancies! Here's me at 30 weeks.

  3. Hallie stopped taking naps at 2 1/2, much to my dismay. It was kind of a hard transition. More so for me, i think. I could tell she still needed a nap, especially since sometimes she'd fall asleep in the car and would get cranky in the afternoon. I would try to get her to lay down, but eventually decided it wasn't worth the fight. I was pretty bummed I didn't get my 2 1/2-3 hour break anymore! Eventually you'll get used to it and figure out other ways to get things done and have your me time.

  6. Hey Liz, my daughter who is close to William's age recently stopped napping and it has not been fun. I just discovered in the last couple of days that she just needed to have naptime earlier. I was putting her to bed around 1:30 or 2:00, and she would just scream (happily) for 2 hours. But yesterday I put her to bed at noon, and today at 11:15, and both days she has slept beautifully. Maybe you already tried this, or maybe it's not an issue anymore now that he's in a big bed, but thought I'd pass it along. Good luck!
