My mother-in-law showed me this beautiful video on Sunday and it really made me stop and think about all we have. Sometimes we want "this" and "that". Sometimes we say "I'll be happy when I have _______" or "I'll be happy when ______ happens." This video reminded me that expressing thanks for the things we do have helps us recognize the abundance of blessings we've been given.
At the last general conference, there was a wonderful talk by David A. Bednar that I was reminded of as I watched this video. He said, "Sometimes we may ask God for success, and He gives us physical and mental stamina. We might plead for prosperity, and we receive enlarged perspective and increased patience, or we petition for growth and are blessed with the gift of grace. He may bestow upon us conviction and confidence as we strive to achieve worthy goals. And when we plead for relief from physical, mental and spiritual difficulties, He may increase our resolve and resilience."
I want to try better to be content with what I have. I want to improve my grateful heart and expound on the way that I express my thanks to God for the blessings I've received. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with good food, friends and family but most importantly, a expression of thanks for the beautiful things in life.
Beautiful..... Happy Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! What a good reminder of what's really important! And how to be happy in life we need to be grateful for the blessings we have. Loved this and I love you! Happy thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteTotally! I need to be better at just being content with what I have and not wanting more. XOXO
DeleteI love love love it!! What's sweeter than an old Grandpa living on a fruit farm who takes pictures and still remembers "the heft of his babies" and how his wife "fits right under his arm." Thanks for sharing, Love! Happy Thanksgiving!!! Wish we were there with you!!!
ReplyDeleteI know! The "heft of his babies" part just made me start bawling. I have been so sentimental about my babies growing up lately. It's important to remember how blessed we are!
DeleteWe've been using that quote from Elder Bednar in our visiting teaching message this month and it's instigated some thought provoking and soul searching discussions. Such a beautiful message. I love how it is inspiring and touching so many!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great one! Elder Bednar always has such great words of wisdom and this one was especially poignant for me. :)
