the big move: part 2

After our fun night out with friends, we had to get to work. Lela and Stephanie and her husband, Parker, came over after dinner and stayed until 1 a.m. helping us pack up some boxes. They are amazing and so generous to stay up late (on a week night no less!) to help us. The next morning, Lela came over bright and early and helped me a ton. She is a packing pro and we got a lot done. It makes me teary to think of all the work she did to help me when she has so much going on in her own life. After a whole day of packing and cleaning, David and I were exhausted but we finally finished after the sun went down. We took one last picture of us in the house and it hit me like a ton of bricks that we were really saying goodbye to our sweet, little house.
I had made reservations for us at a hotel downtown for our last night in San Diego. We had planned to go out to a fancy restaurant, relax and maybe see a movie since we wouldn't have our kids. Unfortunately since packing took so long, we barely had the energy to get a burger at Burger Lounge and then check into the hotel at 8 p.m. still in our work clothes and pretty stinky. After cleaning up and watching a few minutes of TV, we both passed out and slept like babies - we even got to sleep in until 8 o'clock!
On Saturday morning we went to breakfast at Snooze Eatery with some friends. Best breakfast ever! One of the best things about this place is you can do half sweet/half savory - which is basically the best thing ever for someone like me who can't choose between sweet and savory breakfast. Our table cracked me up because there were only four of us eating but they brought out 8 plates because we each split up our meals. We ordered breakfast pot pie with rosemary sausage gravy, Chilaquiles eggs benedict, cinnamon roll pancakes with candied walnuts, smoked salmon eggs benedict with fried capers and dill cream sauce, pineapple upside down pancakes with caramelized pineapple, vanilla creme anglaise and cinnamon butter and blood orange marscapone stuffed French toast with orange toffee candied walnuts. It was all amazing!
After breakfast we drove to Lela's house to pick up the U-Haul (we parked it at their house instead of downtown) so we could say an official goodbye. I felt ready. Not happy but ready. I'm so glad that I was able to have those last few, precious minutes with my girls. They waved us off and maybe I pulled off onto the side of the road a few streets away and cried for a minute.
It was so great to see my boys! They were very excited to see me, which made me feel like a million bucks. Fritz is really walking all over the place and in the few days that he was at my in-laws, it feels like he grew into a big boy. Just a reminder that I need to enjoy every moment.

  2. Zane asked for William today and it almost sent me into full blown cryfest. I don't think it has fully set in yet that you're not here :( It really is much harder on those who are left behind with this giant hole that can't possibly be filled. Miss you.
