house tour: living room (in progress) part 2

OK, I promised that I would post pictures of the house this week and I've been frantic trying to get it done so I could keep my promise but I really have a lot more to do. Oh well, I'm keepin' it real. Anyway, here it is how the living room looks right now.
I took these pictures at the worst time of day so it looks a lot more yellow in these pictures than it really is. There are still a whole list of things I need to finish.

Like styling the bookcase (which looks like a funky, bright blue in the top picture - it more like this below. Kind of a gray-blue).
And putting up new window treatments (these came with the house). They are nice, heavy drapes but the style doesn't go with mine so we'll box them up to save until we move someday. We need something with privacy and light/energy control but I love the look of white, billowy drapes. I wish there was a solution! Anyone?
I need to recover this chair. I love it but I'm ready for something new. I'm really wanting a neutral gray with some great piping so I can have fun pillows but I'm having a really hard time finding just the right shade.
No slipcover on our new sofa yet. It's in the mail! We LOVE the sofa though. Ordering a sofa online sight unseen is kind of scary but I'm so glad it worked out.
We had a little mishap with the sideboard before we moved. Will and his friend had taken turns picking off a few places where the paint was peeling off. One day, a big piece peeled off and I was having thoughts of refinishing the whole thing . . . and then came to my senses. On a free Saturday I just need to repaint these areas.
Overall, I'm loving the room. It's so much more bright and colorful than our last few places and that makes me happy.

  1. They aren't white, but do have a heavy billowy feel - drop cloths for drapes/curtains! I've been reading blogs all over that are doing this! Have you considered that? I'm trying them for a room I'm redoing! :) Good Luck Lizzie! Your room is adorable!

  2. I do love the sideboard... summertime for me will be digging the old one out of my parent's basement to refinish... aka PAINT. Love your new home.

  4. double curtain rods. White sheer curtains for most times and heavy privacy curatins for others stay drawn back. Love your style!

  9. I'd say a double curtain rod too. Best of both worlds.

  13. I am a first time commenter, but I just wanted to see if you would do a tutorial when you recover your chair? My fiance and I just picked up two very 60s looking chairs and want to recover them but do not know how!

  14. What about getting white, wooden blinds that you can close to block off the light and then put the light billowy curtains over the top?
