IKEA certainly isn't the place to buy quality pieces of furniture to last for generations but it definitely is the place to buy trendy, cute items - especially when you want to change them up a bit . . . or "hack" them if you will. In fact, there's an entire blog named after just that: IKEA Hackers. In case you didn't know.
Anyway, our new apartment has a giant wall in our kitchen which I thought was a perfect spot for a menu board. I happened to already have this frame (above) from IKEA that I bought almost a year ago but had never used. I wasn't crazy about the black with my decor so I took some acrylic ivory paint to it and a touch of oatmeal beige paint ($.50 each) on the inner ring of the frame. During our first move to San Diego, the glass center was shattered so I bought some whiteboard from Lowe's (about $8) and cut it with a jig saw to fit. Just two coats of chalkboard paint later and voila! A cheap and easy project!
You have so many good ideas. I love that you post exactly how to do them... and economically!!
ReplyDeleteYou have sure been busy lately and I LOVE all of the projects!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I love it! Except if I were to do it... the board would never be filled because I am so bad at planning what to make for dinner!! ha ha
