go see do: c is for cabrillo

Our Go See Do activity this week started with "C" and we were really jazzed about going camping but it didn't work out that way. How do you camp with a 4 month old baby? Tips anyone? Instead of camping we decided to just head over to one of our favorite views of San Diego - Cabrillo National Monument. It has beautiful views but we had never been to the actual exhibits before. Turns out it was pretty interesting to learn about how San Diego was founded. We learned new things like that thousands of rats lived on the ships that came from Europe and the sailors killed over 4,000 rats during a voyage from the Carribean to Europe in 1622. Is it weird that of all the things I learned - this is what stuck with me? Disgusting facts intrigue me.
William was being darling as ever - even if the wind was blowing, blowing, "blow the man down" blowing. We seriously have been blessed with the most agreeable, happy child on earth. I love him so much (and I love that he has finally learned to love his paci).
Ah, beautiful Coronado Island views. For dinner, we invited our friends Brad and Kara and Buddy and Sarah (plus their kids) to have dinner with us at Cafe Coyote in Old Town. We couldn't pass up the double word score! And David made sure to order things that started with "C" - a chimichanga, a Coke, chips, a cheese enchilada. He's super motivated, that man.
For our last activity, David and I had grand plans to do calligraphy and cake decorating. We even went to Michael's and bought the calligraphy supplies but when we got home, we just crashed. Crashing starts with a "C" though so I think it counts.

We did finally do our cake decorating though and even though it didn't turn out as pretty as I had planned it was still fun. We had to rotate holding a hungry and tired William and piping out frosting just to get it done. Needless to say, my woodland themed cake idea quickly manifested itself as a crumb coated flimsy thing with a few poorly constructed sweet peas. Oh well. The most important thing is that we had fun doing something together and I (once again) learned that my husband is creative. It's so fun for me to see that he really is meticulous and careful with his creativity. His cake looks better than mine and I went to culinary school!

  1. I think camping with an infant is even easier than camping with an older child. They stay put! Just bring a bouncy chair and a pack and play (and diapers and food). My son was soooo content when we were camping because there were so many new things to look at and hear.

  3. Every time I read about your ABC activity I am so amazed at your creativity. That is so fun that you are taking advantage of the fun place by where you live. I keep thinking there is really nothing to do here from A-Z, but I'm sure if I tried I could get somethings even though we live in a small town.

  4. No suggestions for the camping with a 4 month old... sorry. But for 'D' you could still do the calligraphy and call it 'drawing'... pretty good, huh? or save the calligraphy til 'R' and 'recycle' your calligraphy activity.

    Just trying to help.

PS- Cute Cakes. Both of you.

  5. I'm very impressed with Dave's cake decorating skills. I'd love to do something like that. I should find a class here in town. It was fun hanging out with you guys so much on Saturday. Like old times! Let's do it again soon.
