birthday banner

My friend Kristi had her 30th birthday so we went to lunch. It was such a big birthday for her that I thought I would try to do something special so I made a banner. It was my first time making a banner like this but it was surprisingly simple. I did wake up at 4 am that morning though and couldn't go back to sleep so I whipped out my paper cutter, some scrapbook paper and cut away until David woke up to go to work (in hind sight I should have used those precious, wee hours of the morning to make him breakfast. Oops.)
All I did was cut a few sheets of 12 x 12 paper into 4 x 6 rectangles. I used the edges of those to make the shape of the letter and cut them out with scissors. Then I used an X-acto knife to cut out the middle of some of the letters (A, B, etc.) With a large needle I threaded some twine through two spaces (which it turns out is important for it to lay flat) in each letter and tied some pretty ribbon between the words. I think I'll do this again for William's birthday (yes, I'm already planning my 4 month old son's first birthday - I have problems.)

  3. I did take it home and it's displayed very proudly in my front room. I love it!! Thanks again for being so thoughtful. I was planning Ella 1st birthday SEVERAL months before it came...and her 2nd...and her 3rd. I love birthdays, they are so much fun! And kids birthdays are the best! Great minds think alike :)

  4. Cute banner!

And thinking and planning all the exciting moments for your child? Perfectly natural and very maternal! Guilty as charged here, too.

And I have no intention of stopping anytime soon--my children are 18 and 13. They are my dear children and I want every moment to be special for them. :)
