thoughts

A few things I thought about today:

When I get overly anxious for this baby to come (already) I need to remember to take it one week at a time. Thinking in terms of months is too much.

I wish I could hang out with my family this weekend.

I was cold last night with the window open and got to snuggle into the covers. It felt fantastic.

Sometimes I want a girl but then I remember how glad I am that I am growing a “male heir”. There’s something primitively satisfying about that.

I hope he is as crazy about me as I am about him.

According to Morph Thing’s interpretation of pictures of me and David, this is what our baby will look like. Kinda freaky. Kinda sweet.

I have a list of things to do that is longer than the amount of days I have left. Since I usually only have energy for one task a day (after work, dinner, cleaning and the obligatory “feet up” time) I’m doomed to not finish. Time to prioritize. Question: do I really need to re-wash all the baby’s clothes with Dreft detergent? I mean – really?

I set up my sewing machine last night and I can’t wait to use it!

I’ve been putting off getting my hair done so that it will be “fresh” when the babe comes. With only 27 more days to go, I think I should buckle down and make an appointment.

It’s a little sad that I’ll probably be in the hospital for Halloween and even more depressing that there’s not much decorating to do in our little condo. Don’t even get me started on what we’re going to do for a Christmas tree (sob).

I can’t wait for Christmas.

I love this bedroom. Don't you?

We still can’t decide on a name and I just added three new ones to the list today that are whack.

  1. 1.If there's anything I can help you with let me know! I'm just a few minutes away.
    2. Just wash a few onesies, nightgowns, and blankets before he comes. Really, that's all he'll need for the first few weeks.
    3. I'll bring you some candy if you're in the hospital on Halloween :)

  2. Oh Liz-- You definitely are in full on nesting mode right now!! :) I felt the same way! I had so many things I wanted to get done... but ended up having Parker two weeks early, so that didn't happen! ha! Oh, and that picture of you and Dave morphed together... FREAKY!!! Hopefully your little guy will come out cuter than that! ha ha. :)

Now go get your hair done, and go put your feet up!

  3. Yes, I agree. Morph Thing baby is freaky. I have a lengthy list too. I bet mine is 3 times as long as yours. And you know what, I'm not terribly worried about it. Is that bad?

I'm with you on the hair thing. I wish you guys could be here this weekend too.

  4. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that can't seem to decide what to name my son! I'm still have a three months, but we don't seem to agree on anything!

I've decided that when I meet him for the first time, that I'll just know. I think it's one of those intuitive gifts bestowed on mothers!

  5. I rewash everything...but I don't use dreft anymore..poor 3rd child!

Don't worry about the name - it will come! It's so much easier once they are here...at least for me!!!

I'm so glad you're having a boy - baby boys are my absolute favorite right now (probably because that's what I have!) I can't get enough of them.

I can't wait to see your little baby! I hope he has your gorgeous eyes!!!

  6. okay I read your blog all the time but have never commented. Goodness I might feel guilty now...I pre-washed nothing and never used dreft. Sure if they had a reaction I would have. But they didn't...not a single one of the 4 of them...2 of our own and 2 we fostered....My first came early and just didn't have time and when I asked about it the Dr told me not to worry one bit about it that it could actually cause sensitivities later in life maybe she said it to make me feel better....but it sounded good to me :-) ha ha!!

Good luck and God bless as you get everything ready and prepare to meet your little bundle of joy!

  7. Dreft? No. You can wash with regular detergent unless your little one happens to display some sort of sensitivity.

I usually prewashed onesies because they have too much starch in them for my taste. Having worked retail, it's pretty much a good idea to wash whenever you get it home (think about your child's new ____ being in a shipping container, crossing the ocean, on a dock, on the shelf, lots of people touching it.)

  9. I have 5 children and never used Dreft. Besides that, the Pioneers got along just fine without it, right? :)

  10. I have two girls and am done, but I was watching a Ken Burns documentary the other night on PBS all about America's National Parks and they were talking about Ansel Adams...he was such a cool person and of course oh what a photographer. So I thought that in my theoretical world of "if" I had a boy, Ansel would be a super-awesome name :)

  11. Hi. I don't know if you remember me, but I went to school with you (I was a grade younger). Anyway, I don't have a blog set up yet, but I found your blog through Steve and Erin's blog (my husband is friends with Steve - such a small world). I was reading all of your post and I came across this one and wanted to leave my input. I have 2 little girls now and I washed all of their clothes before they wore them, but I didn't use Dreft. I figured if I got them home and they had a reaction (which would just be a little rash, nothing serious) I would then switch. Dreft is so much more expensive so I didn't think it was worth it unless they really needed it. Well, neither of them were bothered by regular detergent. I hope this helps. Don't worry about getting everything done....just relax right now, you will be glad you did when your sweet little boy comes. Congratulations!!

ps - you are still so beautiful!! and i love how you write!! alerielauren[at]yahoo[dot]com
