foodie

They tell me I’m not supposed to eat hot dogs when I’m pregnant. But I can’t help it at a baseball game where they grill up a Hebrew National, slather it with relish and ketchup and mustard and I get to enjoy it in pretty good seats at Petco Park on a cool summer night. It’s sick . . . but soooooo good.

So sue me.

Then I take self-portraits, wish I had a light jacket and cuddle up with David during the Friday Night Friarworks. Clever San Diego. I’m starting to enjoy living here more and more – especially since we found the most amazing place for breakfast burritos on Saturday morning.

  1. I've never heard pregnant women shouldn't eat hot dogs. Is that true? Where have I been?

  2. I know what you mean. I am pregant too but when I crave one I HAVE to have it. I'm pretty sure 1 dog won't hurt the baby :)

  3. Ooh, where do you go for breakfast? I love the Hash house or Little Italy Farmers Market - but my husband would probably like breakfast burritos more!

  4. Natalie - it's a place in PB called Taco Surf. Make sure you get the burrito with hash browns and beans in it. Oh my gosh it's good!!

  6. I think as long as it's hot you're in the clear. It's the lysteria in hot dog meat and deli meat that's "dangerous" and it has to be cooked out to be safe. They say you can have deli meat too if you heat it up, but ew, can you imagine?

  7. I totally understand! In fact, the only time I even like/want hot dogs is when I am pregnant...not a big deal (i hope!).

  8. Whatever. Eat a hotdog. It's not like you're eating it raw.

    People are freaks.

    Yay Lizzy!

  10. For those that have never heard the whole hot dog thing - don't worry. It's just one if those things like don't eat cold deli meat because of the nitrates. It's too bad we have put such things in our modern food any way but they say it can cause listeriosis. It's food poisioning that can harm your baby but it's quite rare. Here's my thing about all this - eat deli meats and hot dogs sparingly (pregnant or not), make sure your hot dogs are properly cooked through and never eat something that could be contaminated (sitting out at room temperature a long time, past expiration date, etc.) that's just my two cents.

  11. When I was pregnant, I was telling my mom all about the list of things I was informed not to eat. Her reply "I ate whatever I wanted when I had all of you and you all turned out fine".
I never heard of the deli meat one though and I ate a turkey sandwich almost everyday I worked. woops. I think Hallie turned out alright, don't ya think? :)

  12. I think studies have shown that you'd have to eat like 4873 hotdogs daily to have the nitrites be concentrated enough to harm you or a baby, so eat up, buttercup!!
I love Hebrew National. Had one today for lunch with my Charlotte, in fact.

also--I loved that poignant 9/11 video you posted--that music was exceptionally touching as were the images. subtly powerful, which sounds like an oxymoron.
