peter's 40th

I feel like I was going to post about something . . .

oh yes, that's right.

my old, geezer brother turned 40 (I can say that because he doesn't read my blog - hey pete!) and his lovely wife threw him a surprise party this weekend.

he was surprised. hurrah!
then we feasted on chips, tomatillo salsa and my dad's guacamole. luckily, I captured this moment of sarah's snacking. I cherish this photo.then, I lick/flipped off (not on purpose) david while he took a picture of me putting the finishing touches on my lemon custard cake. then I got serious about it.
then, darin presented dinner. red bell corn chowder (fantastic), an herbed strawberry and orange leafy salad and quesadilla paninis (black bean and chicken, mushroom and olive) along with blueberry sodas. yum-star.we all sat down to eat (did I do anything but take pictures this night?) and had a grand time making fun of things like the landmark restaurant food (a salad bar of packaged lettuce, ranch dressing and . . . quail eggs? I'm such a food snob.)
darin made peter wear a jazz cap and a silly t-shirt. we then proceeded to "roast" him.alice and jay started off with a rousing rendition of "it's the end of your youth as you know it".
then mark began the gift giving by whipping out his photoshopped portrait of "peter at the beach" (a payback for all of peter's snide birthday e-mails of mark with a photoshopped mullet).other gifts given - chest shaving cream, GQ magazine from the 80's, a port-a-potty/walker . . . gag gifting is so much more fun than regular.
we ended the evening with a game of charades - peter style. there were some awesome actions/guesses going on. "stretchy pants" and "koala bear" were just a few. good times with the family. happy birthday pete!
