house update

Here's what our house looks like right now. Yep, be jealous. I seriously stand in this spot for a lot of my day and just sigh and feel paralyzed (don't even get me started on our box-filled garage). There is SO much to do. We are finishing up painting our bedroom so we can FINALLY move in our bed and clothes. We have been sleeping our mattress in the dining room. We had to drag stuff out and up the stairs on Sunday morning while we tried to find some church clothes. My hair dryer is still missing and I have been rocking the air-dry all week. For someone who gets a lot of confidence from my hair being styled, this has been an adjustment.
Here's a peek of our kitchen vinyl floors. Aren't they incredible? I am planning on painting them while we save up for a full kitchen remodel. The cabinets are black and the counter tops are white - no avocado green or other totally funky 70's detail to deal with - so this is the only super groovy thing in there. Totally livable.
And this is our backyard as seen from our bedroom window. Our lot is just under 1/2 acre and we don't have any neighbors behind us (we back up to a hiking trail) so it feels really open. The yard hasn't been maintained in many years and I'm pretty sure the front lawn hasn't been fertilized in 40 years so it needs some major TLC. The blackberry bushes are taking over the other side of our house - and that's not a good thing. If you're like me, and didn't grow up in the PNW, then you probably are thinking, "Is she really complaining about blackberry bushes??" but trust me - they are noxious and ugly and thorny. We've heard you can hire goats to come gobble them up (how hilarious/cute/awesome is that?) so we plan to find some after we've enjoyed lots of blackberry pie this summer.

  1. Is it bad that I actually like your vinyl floors? They're kind of weird, but cool at the same time.

    1. Not bad at all, Iris! It's all just a matter of personal taste. We have some really cool things in mind for the kitchen down the road but I'm just fine with living with them for a while. :)

  2. I kind of like that flooring. :) It will all be worth it in the end. I have been in my home 14 years next month ~ there's always something to re-do/remodel/fix etc. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Love seeing yours all come together.

    1. Another vote for the vinyl floors! Ha! Yes, the remodeling is never ending and we've only lived here a week. "One day at a time" is my mantra... ;)

  3. I love your blog. I love that you're a real woman/wife/mom that has real struggles and joys just like all of us. Your pictures are beautiful and your recipes delicious. No worries if you take your time when posting... you do have a full time job other than this! Thanks for sharing your life on the web :)

  4. I come to your blog once a month or so for a Korean Beef recipe I have on my Pinterest favorites. From 2010 or so. Today I thought I'd check out the rest of your blog while the Korean Beef simmers away. I'm jealous of your 1/2 backing up to a hiking trail -- enjoy!
