baby moon

Our "baby moon" in San Diego was so perfect. I feel really strongly about taking time to get away with your spouse. It is vital for our relationship! We both felt refreshed in our love for each other, which we both needed with two (soon to be three) little kids pulling at us all the time! We were able to sleep in (ah, heaven), snuggle and laugh at each other's jokes. It was so nice to have the mental energy to just focus on making each other feel good. It's not like we never do that at home, but without having to focus on taking care of our children for a couple of days, we were able to see each other as husband and wife and not "mom" or "dad". Reconnecting for the win!
One of the first things on our agenda was going to Rincon del Mar for some seafood tacos. We are crazy about that place!
David takes such good care of me and is so kind. This weekend reminded me how lucky I am to be spending my life with a man who works hard and who is so good to me. I know that some people don't have a relationship where they feel valued and safe and I feel so grateful to have that.
Some highlights of the weekend included driving around La Jolla and listening to music (one of our favorite things) with the windows open. Sometimes we would talk and sometimes we would just enjoy the silence of being together. We reevaluated our goals and talked about what we want for our future as a family. It was great not having any plans or anywhere to be at a certain time. We just did what we wanted.
We met some friends for dinner on Friday night at Tender Greens. I miss that restaurant so much. Such wonderful, fresh food and it was fun to see our friends some more. I love this picture of David and Lela - two of my favorite people on earth.
And little baby Cora, who is loved so much!
On Saturday we walked on the shores and then went to get pedicures, which we haven't done together since our honeymoon. We went to a place that was on the second floor overlooking the ocean. They had the doors open with the most heavenly breeze and I felt like I was seriously floating.
Then we got a scoop of Haagen Dazs ice cream and held hands while we walked around downtown. David actually likes to shop so we looked at a few things and had fun just browsing (and maybe I bought one or two things for the baby...) He also took a bunch of pictures of me with my baby belly. I am trying really hard to document my pregnancy with this baby (even though I feel swollen and puffy).
It was time to leave on Sunday and we drove to David's parents house to pick up the boys, who had the time of their lives! It was great to see them and they were thrilled to see us too, which felt great. David's family had some confetti eggs and we smashed them on each other's heads on the patio. The boys thought that was the coolest thing ever. I guess it's a Mexican Easter tradition. Fritz really got into it! Ha!
Then they made homemade chocolate ice cream and Fritz enjoyed licking the bowl of melted chocolate. We're grateful that our boys were safe and had fun with David's family so we could spend some quality time together. Our whole family feels refreshed and happy!

  1. You look beautiful, Lizzy! :) And your baby moon looked amazing.
I am already planning a weekend / night getaway with Mikael, I am craving palm trees, a warm breeze and hotel breakfast. But I think that we will just have to make due with a place at the ocean nearby while my parents are here :)

  3. Looks like you guys had a great time, and I'm so glad you got to have a little time together (and in San Diego!) I love your shorter hair, and you look beautiful, as usual. :) And those confetti-filled eggs totally took me back to my childhood. I can't get over how adorable your boys are, and sweet, little Cora too! So precious!!

  4. I have never commented but I love your blog. I am pregnant with number 3 also. I can't help but notice how beautiful you look in your maternity clothes. Where are most of them from? I have such a hard time finding ones I like. My belly gets so big that I look ridiculous no matter what I wear but I would love to feel cuter this time around.

    1. Hi Katie! Congrats on #3! Thank you so much for saying I look cute - as a fellow pregnant mama, that is the nicest thing you could say! :) I feel enormous too but that's life. I basically live in some leggings I got from Old Navy and I also shop at Asos, Gap and Target. That's where I would say almost all of my maternity clothes come from. I also buy large tunics and kaftans and those work really well for a while. I'm on the hunt for a cute muu-muu! :)

  5. May I ask for a San Diego hotel recommendation? We're planning a trip there for our 10th anniversary. Thank you! Your pictures are lovely.

    1. Hi Sara - I'm sorry, I can't recommend a hotel. Since we lived there, we didn't really need a hotel and when I go visit, we almost always stay with friends. :) That said, I can recommend areas. Just depends on what you're looking to do and your price point. We have stayed downtown before when we got a great deal at the Westin. I was pretty nice but I don't think it's the best location. San Diego is a place where you'll definitely want to drive most places. You certainly wouldn't want to stay only downtown. If you're going for an anniversary, I would consider staying in La Jolla. Close to the beach, good restaurants, quaint shops and beautiful walks along the coves. Have fun!
