a big, sweaty, 100+ degree change

My heart is achy. We are moving away from our beautiful San Diego - our dream location. I am leaving my dear friends. I am leaving this amazing weather. I am leaving my teeny tiny home (that I love so much). I am leaving my gym, my library, my park, my neighborhood streets. I am leaving behind my favorite restaurants and spots. I am leaving behind beautiful drives and walks along the beach. I have a pit in my stomach but I know it's the best thing for our little family and that brings me peace.
David's company has transferred him to their Arizona division and we are moving in just a few weeks (double gulp). Construction is a rough business - you have to go where the building is and, sadly, San Diego isn't booming right now. I'm not overjoyed by this news but it's his career and I'm so incredibly thankful for it. In a few short weeks, we'll be moving back to Arizona and while I'm very sad to be leaving my heart behind in this place that I love the most, I'm glad that I can be close to my family again. I'm happy that my children will know my parents, their cousins, aunts and uncles. I'm excited for family dinners and tacos at Tia Rosa's. I'm looking forward to trips to the cabin and date nights with friends that I love. There are many things I look forward to but I will so deeply miss my dear friends here. They have become my family so I know that I will always have them in my life, but I will miss them so much! Pray for me! This is a big change and I hope that it's going to be a good one!

And if you're one of my Arizona friends, let's play! :)

  1. I can't stop crying :( I know this will be good for your family but I still hate it. You will be missed more than you will ever know. Thank goodness it's a short drive away. There will be visits...LOTS of visits. Soul sista's 4 ever!!! XOXO Love you.

    1. If you're crying then I'm crying (again) too! I can't stop! I just will miss you so much. :( Waaaahhhh! At least I know I'll still see you. When you moved to VA it was just too far - five and a half hour drive is like nothing - right???!!!! Love you back!

    1. We'll miss you guys as well, Diane! David will miss doing "guy stuff" with Rowdy too - you guys are awesome. Oh, and I'll miss seeing you on your way to work at the hospital in the mornings (haha - did I mention that I see you walking down Zion almost every morning on my way to the gym?)

  3. That is indeed bittersweet. How sad to leave people and things you love but so very lucky to be gaining people and things you already love and more where your family is.

  4. Big change! I'm sad and happy for you. Being around family is amazing. To be honest, San Diego and AZ are the two places I daydream about ALL the time these days. So you're still lucky as far as I'm concerned. :) Good luck with your move!

    1. I know - I'm pretty lucky. :) San Diego has been my "dream" for a long time and I constantly felt like I was living this ridiculous dream for the last four years. I don't do well in the heat so I'm really nervous about living in Arizona. Actually, I'm really worried about those closest near to me because they'll be the ones who suffer from my SPD ("Sweaty Personality Disorder"). Ha! No, but I am really excited to be near my family.

  5. Such a bummer! I really wished I'd been able to do more with you. I kept thinking, 'When we get into our own place, I'll invite her over.' But that's been taking longer than I thought it would. Good luck with everything! I'll sure miss you and Graham will miss Fritz. They were becoming such cute friends!

  6. I'm so sad, Liz. And the only thing that makes it less sad is that I can come big you when I come to AZ to see you! We will just keep praying for more work here so you can come back... Or an opening at Chris's company so you can stay here for a long time!! (Not that we are permanent either... But ya know) wish you the best and happy saving and playing with family!

  7. My heart is breaking for you :( As much as my own selfish heart is excited that I might get to see you once in awhile now, I know how much you dearly love San Diego! Let me know if you need help unpacking!

  8. What a coincidence! We are headed back to AZ too! We just made the decision on Monday but it's all happening so fast. We are going to Disneyland on Friday and driving to AZ after that. So I guess we'll see you around. Do you know where you'll be living? Let us know if you find any awesome neighborhoods to live in! We'll be living at Smiths' until the house sells.

  9. Elizabeth, I'm just going to stay in complete denial about all of this all the way up until we move this spring. That'll keep me from being super sad, right? ;) But seriously, I will so miss you! And I can definitely relate to your feelings . . . San Diego, with everything and everyone it includes, is totally a dream. Thank goodness for blogs and road trips and maybe even airplane trips. (You know you guys are totally welcome to come visit us in Hawaii, right?! :) ) Love ya bunches, and praying for you too. :)

  10. I had the same thing happen 13 years ago. We were newlyweds and had never lived outside of the frigid midwest. My husband's work took him to the NC coast and we had the time of our lives! We made forever friends and spent our free time at the beach and discovering the great restaurants and historical sites there. Too soon we were back to the midwest for work, but after raising 3 children here right beside their cousins and both sets of grandparents, I wouldn't have it any other way. We bought a lot on the island we loved there and plan to build a retirement home there someday. It will always be in our hearts but being close to our family will always be the right decision for our children! It is so bitter sweet, isn't it?! I hope you have a smooth transition and enough opportunities to see your CA friends as often as you can!

  11. Wow- that is big. On the bright side you can get more for your buck in AZ- read: more space for lots of babies! And you're moving back when the weather is actually really nice in AZ, right? It really would have been rough to move back in the dead of summer. Good luck with the move!

  12. Wow, such a big change! Sean and I are moving this week and I am sure that your head must be spinning!

The wonderful upside is the cost of living in Arizona. You can get a big place!!

Good luck with the move!! xo

  16. awww i am a regular here at Lizzy Writes, and I have to say I am so sad for all your friends, because I just know how much everyone loves you. I believe you will be happy wherever you go as long as you have your family, and also because of the amazing person you are. Maybe someday you can move back to San Diego. Change is hard, but I know that everything will work out for you. You will make another beautiful home with your loving touches, incredible creativity, and soon you will have many more memories to treasure with your precious family. I look forward to reading all about your new adventure, and wish you all the luck in the world!

  17. I found your blog via Nie and read it occasionally. Moving really sucks. It takes several years before your circle of friends is fully fleshed out again. But you're a warm person and you'll make those connections again. Plus, there's your family in AZ.
