christmas 2011: eve

Christmas Eve is my favorite day of the year - hands down - and this year was no exception. We spent this Christmas with David's family and their annual Christmas Eve tradition is to make Mexican food . . . and they go all out. His mom makes the BEST red enchilada sauce I've ever had and dish after dish of cheese enchiladas. Then she makes sopa fideo (which isn't your typical sopa fideo - more of a dry browned spicy spaghetti) which I love. We have beans, tortillas, fresh guacamole and salsa. It's a Mexican feast!
Of course, as soon as the chips came out there was Will. He stayed perched there until dinner was "officially" served.
We attempted to get a family picture in front of the Christmas tree but, you know, the chips come first. So all we have is this one of David and me. Taking a family picture is impossible this year, which is why we didn't send out Christmas cards.
After dinner William got a bath and then we went through the Christmas story and sang along songs while I played the piano.
William enjoyed my favorite of my mother-in-law's holiday decorations when she lit the candles so the fan blades would spin - such a lovely, warm glow.
Pretty soon he got tired and it was off to bed for the boy. We stayed up watching Christmas movies and then headed to bed ourselves . . . and of course, I couldn't sleep. I'm 27 years old and I still cannot sleep through the night on Christmas Eve. I don't think I'll ever be able to.

  5. I came her via Pinterest and so I lingered. It looks like you have a wonderful family and friends. We have the same Christmas dishes. Mine are still in the cupboard because I can't bring myself to put them away yet. Maybe by Valentines.
