Last week we went to the New Children's Museum in downtown San Diego. It is such a cool place and William had a great time. It was kind of expensive ($10 for adults and children over the age of one) but I think it's a good deal for all the crafts and things there to do. If you're in San Diego when the weather is really bad (hey, it could happen!) then I would recommend coming here if you have children between the ages of 2 and 10. You could definitely spend several hours here.
William loved painting the large whale sculpture with big paint brushes, making clay turtles and snakes (the only thing I know how to do), bubble blowing with homemade pipe cleaner blowers, playing jungle animal dress-ups, exploring teepees and finger painting. He had the whole room to himself and I just let him go to town and didn't worry about his clothes (until I got home and had to Biz them to death). He got his face covered in red paint when he decided to taste it. As soon as I saw him raise his red fingers to his lips I said, "No! Don't do that!" and he immediately slapped himself in the face - hence the red Indian warrior hand print. He is so great.
The other hilarious thing that happened was William wanted to go in a little house called "The Rain Room". It was a small house that had foam floors and rain noises playing and the kids can run around. The entrance that he wanted to go through was a very small "Alice in Wonderland" keyhole entry and he was very excited to get inside. Once I finally got his shoes off he ran through the entry and immediately got nailed by another child who was running in the opposite direction. It was a total accident but they literally bounced off each other. William just laid there and cried and I had to run all the way around to get to him. When I finally got him calmed down, he decided he wanted to go back in. As soon as he ran back through the entry way he got nailed again by another boy who was also running around. More crying ensued and William's friend, Boston, went up to the little boy and yelled, "No!" and hit him. It was so great (sad, but hilarious). Obviously we had to leave after that because I'm sure all the other moms thought I was a horrible person. I know. I'm a pretty stellar mom. :)
He is so darn cute. Looks like a fun time!
ReplyDeleteso sad I missed it but it looked like a lot of fun. next time. next time. and yes your middle name should be stellar. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou can actually check out a freebie pass for your whole family through the library. Just ask at the desk to get on the list. The wait is a little long, but we've gone 2 or 3 times in the past year without paying.
ReplyDeleteI went to a children's museum in my city with my 2 year old last week and my mama bear was roaring ferociously on the inside at all the big kids pushing my child around. I bit my tongue (mostly) and watched him navigate the territory and it was a learning experience for both of us. But I definitely cheered when I heard how your encounter ended!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like crazy fun! We have a children's museum in town, but I've never been. It looks a little sketchy on the outside. Maybe I need to give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! How fun for the kids! I'm so glad William had Boston there to defend him! That was awesome. :)
