If you've been following this blog experience o' mine for an extended period of time you might remember when I posted about reupholstering this $10 chair from Salvation Army. I wouldn't say that I'm obsessed with being "green". I will say that I try because I care about our environment but I also really care about being frugal.
So, go here to check out my little GE giveaway while we talk about the GE ecomagination challenge and you can get a chance to win a GE energy small LED that lasts - wait for it - 20 years!. It's pretty awesome.
We live in an older house and our issue has been our incredibly drafty windows. So for winter this year (in Indiana, mind you!), my husband bought a window kit that's basically just plastic wrap you seal around the window. Looks tacky, but it works! Our house is much, much warmer.

Our biggest energy issue is our heat and air conditioning. We are trying to get our insilation all under control.

Our biggest energy issue... 5 kids! WE have lights on EVERYWHERE! Also, living in a big house in Minnesota makes for nasty heating bills. We are hoping to have a wood burning stove installed before next winter! Like you, I am not a nut about this stuff, but I am very aware of being good stewards of our environment. I try to do the little things as well.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a while... thank you for the fun, uplifting posts!
I would love to try this bulb...one of my big pet peeves right now is truly dimmable energy efficient light bulbs! We have and use lots of dimmers here but have yet to find a decent low-energy bulb that works with them. Here's hoping the technology picks up soon.
ReplyDeleteDo you think they have a bulb for nightlights? Ha! We go through ours sooo fast! This is a great giveaway...thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love using these lightbulbs especially in hard to reach places (like above the stairwell that can only be reached with a ladder)(who thought that was a good idea anyway?). Thanks for offering the giveaway. I've so enjoyed watching your sweet boy grow by following your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest energy issue at our house is the heating. Our main floor windows are drafty and the outside walls were very poorly insulated. So it makes for near constant cold no matter how high the heat.
ReplyDelete20 years really????? Wow
ReplyDeleteThe biggest energy problem at our house is air leaks in the doors and windows. We've replaced some of the tubing in the door fram and installed a draft guard but I think it's the windows that are killing our bills the most.
ReplyDeleteposted on both blogs just to be safe.
We moved into an older house and changed out the windows and it's made a big difference. My husband grew up in a place where energy and resources were not so readily available and with him, I am learning to turn the lights off (constantly), not serve myself more water than needed, ration everything. It's amazing how much we take for granted here in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Thanks for having the giveaway!
