eat food. not too much. mostly plants.

Here's what I'm (slowly) learning about food. Eating a whole batch of chocolate chip cookies (easily my greatest temptation) by myself won't make me feel good. In fact, when I don't eat even one of those cookies I feel amazing. I haven't had sugar in almost two weeks and that is a HUGE deal for me. Some days the only thing I would eat was leftover dessert from the night before. Yes, I'm admitting it.
We went to dinner at a beautiful restaurant with our dear friends who were in town last week for a little babymoon before their next son is born. As I ordered my cobb salad for dinner, I thought about how I would have never done this before. I normally would have eaten the garlic bread and ordered something full of carbs and little vegetables. It feels so good. I guess I'm doing pretty good at my 2011 resolutions after all!

(Title quote from this great book. I listened to it on a road trip. Very thought-provoking.)

  1. You're doing great! I gave up sugar for over a year once. It really did feel good. I am inspired by you to do it again!

PS I love your 'dear friends'. I'm anxious for that new little baby to come.

  2. I have been determined to eat healthy this week and I've done pretty darn good I must say... thanks to you for inspiring me! Steve and I laughed after dinner because you were telling us all about your healthy eating plan and we sat and listened while scarfing down that fattening garlic bread the whole time! ha ha! Carbs are truly the devil sometimes.

Good job on eating healthy for so long! I aspire to be just like you someday. :)

  3. That restaurants menu looks good! Good for you for sticking to your no sugar goal! Once you remove sweets from your diet, it's so easy not to miss it. But it's definitely easy for it to slip back into your life! Dang, that Christmas season!

  5. Congratulations on no sugar for two weeks! That is AMAZING in my book. Trust me, you are not the only one who eats dessert for 3 meals a day. I usually throw in a plate of nachos as a snack too though. I've been wanting to read that book for a while and I'm glad to hear a recommendation.

  6. I give up sugar pretty often, and restrict myself to protein and veggies, with limited amounts of whole grains. That, paired with lots of water, makes my body feel GREAT! So much natural energy! (and the flatter tummy is a mood-booster, too!) You're doing great =)
