irish favs

In honor of St. Patty's Day, here are a few of my favorite Irish things.
I love this little vintage teapot I got from a thrift store in Bray, Ireland for the equivalent of $5. I call that the "luck of the Irish" (except I'm more Danish than Irish).
Last night, I made this little felted green pin to wear today. Hope no one pinches me! William's being doing that plenty already.I've always loved this picture of me with two of my awesome brothers, Stephen and Marcus. They both make me laugh so hard. This was on our trip to Ireland in 2006 and we took this picture of us jumping on the cliffs of the Irish Sea. Stephen's pencil body and leprechan face and Marcus' perfectly angled kick and flute playing . . . I have no words. I'm silently cracking up as I type this (the baby's asleep you know).
And then I love this picture of me and Marcus at Taylor's Three Rock Pub in Dublin. Maybe it was touristy and maybe we didn't know any of the words to the Irish tunes but it was one of the funnest things on our trip.

As far as I know, I don't have a lick of Irish in me. That's OK because I love my Danish/Welsh heritage but I certainly think the Irish people are fantastic. I'll be listening to the Celtic Women and The High Kings today and maybe I'll make some irish soda bread scones (or perhaps just shamrock cookies). But one thing's for sure: I will be watching Darby O'Gill and the Little People. That's my St. Patrick's Day tradition. What are some of yours?

  1. Oh liz, I love this post! I am Irish and love anything Irish, exept Ale (keeping my LDS standards you see:):)
Every St. Patty's day we have corn beef, cabbage, and potato's for dinner. Not really a favorite meal but more of a tradition:):) This year I am adding Irish soda bread to the mix, or maybe try your scone recipe:):):) We also have whoopie pies with green filling-YUM:)
    Happy St. Patty's day!!!
(love the pic of you and your brothers by the cliff!!!)

  2. I've never commented before, but had to because your mention of watching Darby O'Gill and the Little People made me smile. That was a tradition in our family growing up that we still do with our kids. The banshee and ghostly horse always scared me when I was little. :) We also do corned beef and cabbage and my mom would make green milk and pancakes too. This year I made a leprechan trap with the kids and set it out last night. We tempted him with some gold coins and he left us some edible "gold" in return. Fun!

  8. I love that tea pot! I just hosted a Tea party for my niece and realized I don't have a Tea Pot. I have tons of tea cups... no teapot. Ireland would be the perfect place to find one since they are big on Tea. I keep thinking I need to go to Ireland and your pictures are making me miss it.
