nursery: step one

finding a nursery mobile is hard work. well, it’s hard work if you want one that isn’t covered in a scrunchie with hanging disney characters. don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of adorable mobiles out there from modern wood to handmade birds. alas those price tags are a tad high for me so I hopped on etsy, scoped around for something that was more up my alley and came across this cute shop. I was very close to buying this adorable pinwheel mobile when I thought, “heck, I can do this and save $50 for something else I can’t make!” (and I wanted to use my own paper.)
turns out I can make it . . . but it also turns out that I would kill myself for two weeks trying to get mine to look as perfect, symmetrical and pretty as hers. I didn’t entirely succeed as far as symmetry goes but david and I both agree that the off-balance-ness is kind of cool. plus, I love how the pinwheels spin in the wind that blows through the nursery window. this is one small step in the direction of our nursery. so far we’re almost done. I just need a crib mattress, some wall shelves, frames and a few other knick knacks. in fact, now I’m on the hunt for the perfect baby book. any ideas where I can get something as cool as the binth one (boo to $110)?
p.s. if you’re decorating your nursery, check out these websites for inspiration:
and I like to peruse serena & lily (sigh) every now and again just to drool. though e-bay has been particularly good to me lately . . .

and rub your little toes.

and gobble your little tummy.

and “mug” your cheeks and hands.

I love you lots.

beach baby

Whale Cupcakes, originally uploaded by eabryant.

what's better than a week at the beach? getting adorable gifts for your baby at the beach! that's what! david's mom and sisters threw me a beautiful baby shower during their family reunion at pacific beach with all his aunts and cousins. they were all very generous and I'm so grateful to have such cute things to wrap, dress, clean, feed and cuddle my baby in when he comes! the shower was altogether wonderful to every detail. proof:

let’s start with those adorable mini cupcakes beth made you already saw and these adorable whale cookies as a thank you.
