while we're on the topic of movies . . .

Dear Hollywood,

Most of your movies are rotten. Many are centered around justifications of infidelity, grotesque scenes of murder or idiots who get so drunk they can't remember their mistakes. These kinds of films abound in your money-filled pits and it makes me sad because, even in my short life, I have seen this sad progression of bad to worse in the "talent" of your filmmakers. I grew up loving movies like "Summer Magic" and "On Moonlight Bay" where a simple 3-second kiss was all you needed to make you feel a rush of butterflies (no steamy groping required). Women were beautiful - clothed in pretty dresses and smiling with their lips instead of making provocative gestures with them.

Please stop making films that are wasteful. Go back to the time when the plots were kind, they were pure and they were meaningful. I'm not suggesting that every movie produced should be a musical or even based on a happy, daisy-filled theme. I'm simply asking that you be responsible with the opportunity you've been given and I hope that some of you will be brave enough to realize there is a market for clean, well-done movies.
"People associate me with a time when movies were pleasant, when women wore pretty dresses in films and you heard beautiful music. I always love it when people write me and say, I was having a rotten time and I walked into a cinema and saw one of your movies, and it made such a difference." - the lovely Audrey Hepburn

Sincerely,
A mother hoping for a bright cinematic future for my children
