ok, on to the halloween party! last friday,
erin and I threw a spook fest at my parent's house. we made "lady finger" pretzels,

ghostie cookies (that I forgot to take a picture of, darn it), macaroni and cheese gratin (see the recipe
here on
my food blog),

homemade root beer, slime rickeys, green goddess dip with crudites . . . don't you wish you had been there?
I was a french kiss and david was the PERFECT nerd. I can't even tell you how happy it made me.

we played the name game and mafia (and me? I just took pictures for my blog.)

the group of ladies were cute.

the group of laddies were even cuter.

then I forced everyone outside to compete in the old fashioned "donuts on a string" game - no exceptions.

however, the donuts were pumpkin and caramel apple so no one could resist anyway.

I told you they were good.
it was a good time had by all (I hope). but a little too much stress for my taste. I think I'll stick to simple decorations, a host of halloween flicks and
peanut butter popcorn next year.
If you can make good macaroni and cheese - I want to be your new best friend. I need to find a good recipe for it as I have never tasted one I really liked. What a fun party!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad we missed it - looks like you had a lot of fun!!!
ReplyDeleteJill,
ReplyDeleteI found a recipe from Martha Stewart (just like everything else) and it turned out! I've made mac 'n cheese several times before and it turned out curdled and/or just not creamy enough. I think the trick is, when you make the roux, heat up the milk before pouring it into the butter/flour mixture rather than adding cold milk. It's a lot of work but for something special, I think it's fun. I'll post about it more on my food blog: www.thedishondelish.blogspot.com.
Lizzy
this looks so fun! i may steal some of your ideas for my party next year- great decor!
ReplyDeleteThis is a killer party, you look A-dorable...and you're right, Dave is the perfect nerd! Wish I could have been there!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad we had a party! It all turned out so good! Lets do it again next year... maybe by then we will all have cute little babies to dress up for Halloween! :) he he
ReplyDeleteOooh, yes. Please submit your macaroni and cheese au gratin to your cooking blog!! And you are so fun Liz. And looking at your food makes me incredibly hungry.
ReplyDeleteFirst time commenting. I hope that's ok! :) I have been reading your blog for awhile and love your style in clothes, decorations, etc, etc! Great pictures - it looks like a very fun time!
ReplyDeleteHalloween is great- and holy cow, that old woman/baby costume was incredible! The food and decorations looked wonderful. I can't believe Friday is the 31st- I'll be taking the easy route - movie and popcorn.
ReplyDeletecan't wait for the mac n cheese recipe!!!
ReplyDeletethank you.
Lizzy - thank you!! I am printing it off right now. I think you're right with the tip on the hot milk. All macaroni and cheese recipes I've tried have been overly curdled. Nasty. Thanks for posting it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh you are so cute. I love the lady fingers.
ReplyDeletei love the pictures!!! cute blog by the way!
ReplyDeleteAUDREY
LOVE IT!! Way awesome decorating and the french kiss/nerd idea is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love to make real homemade rootbeer...
ReplyDeleteI make sassafrass tea (can buy dried bark at some health food stores), add some sugar or sweetner to taste, and then I add dried ice to the hot tea. Voila! Real Homemade Rootbeer!
You should try it sometime.
You are the cutest! Looking forward to seeing you for Thanksgiving. And tell David that he pulled off that nerd costume perfectly!
ReplyDeleteLiz, you rock! I love it all. And may I say, you're killing me with those donuts! Can you send some my way?
ReplyDeleteFUN..I love the donut/string game.
ReplyDeleteWendy
K so I am a blog stalker, and I got to your blog from your old blog, from CJane's. I got to say the guy who has the baby/grandma costume is freaking awesome!! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your trials and triumphs with the rest of the blogging world or just people like me, a blog stalker! :)
I see that poodle skirt. Rock! I was going to go as Sylvia Plath, so I could just wear black, but I'm not a blong. So, I decided to go as an ink spot. Whatever. I'm just lazy.
ReplyDeleteA blong? Really? Geez. Meant blond.
ReplyDeleteI love the food ideas... you are way too creative for your own good!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you guys had a great party! I really wanted to come but A) I didn't know what costume was going to fit over my preggo belly and B) I was in labor! - I guess that was my real for being a no show, but I'm glad all turned out well the costumes, food and decorations all look amazing!!
